3 Days in Mexico City

Our most recent trip took us to Central & South America. Our first stop was in Mexico City. The first time in Mexico for both of us!

Day 1:

We started out our first day with a delicious breakfast. We stayed at a very lovely bed & breakfast that offered a freshly made local breakfast option (along with the normal continental choices). That morning was Huevos Rancheros, which actually made it on my top meal list of the trip. I just really loved the sauce.

After breakfast, we headed towards the city center to see the Catedral Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México.

Next, we popped our heads into the lobby of the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico for a quick peek.

Our next stop was the Museo del Templo Mayor, which was a combination of ruins of an ancient temple and a museum about the Mexica people. This museum had a lot of great things to see and was very well laid out. I would definitely recommend adding it to your schedule if you visit Mexico City.

Lunch break! Of course, we’re eating tacos. And we popped into a random bakery for some sweet treats.

After lunch, we walked to the National Museum of Art, because we can never say no to an art museum.

Leaving the museum, we were caught in a downpour! I regretted leaving my raincoat at the hotel that day.

For dinner that night, Ali tried a local dish called Chile en Nogada. It was recommended to us by the hotel receptionist and he was not disappointed. I had floutas, which were also delicious

Day 2:

The second day did not get off to a great start. I woke up feeling a bit nauseous, so I had a simple breakfast and decided to power through it. In the end, we think it was due to altitude sickness.

Our first stop of the day was Museo National de Historia/Castillo Chapultepec. To get to it we had to walk up a big hill and by the time we made it to the top, I was starting to feel even worse. I ended up sitting on a bench outside, while Ali did a speed run of the museum.

I, unfortunately, had to go back to the hotel to rest. And after setting me up with tea, food, and meds, Ali ventured out to the Anthropology Museum on his own.

Then, after checking in with me again, he had a late dinner alone (I was still ill) and tried even more taco flavors!

Day 3:

The morning of day 3 I was feeling better, but wasn’t still at 100%. We had a day tour booked to take us to see the Teotihuacan Pyramids that day, so I convinced Ali to go without me while I rested a bit more.

The tour also made a stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

When he returned from the tour, I was feeling like myself again, so Ali took me back to the Museum of Anthropology because he really liked it and didn’t get to see it all the first time.

We celebrated out last night with some enchiladas.

And that was our time in Mexico City! It didn’t go quite according to plan and I hope to go back some day to see more. And hopefully next time I will be better prepared for the elevation.

Until next time, Mexico!
