British Isles 2022: Part 2: Belfast, Northern Ireland

Day 1:

We made it safely to Belfast from Dublin (click here for part 1) and found our way to our hotel. It was just a few blocks of walking and we were able to take in the city.

After checking into our hotel, we decided to venture out for some dinner. We decided on a place called. Howard St. and enjoyed some homemade bread with olive tapenade, French onion soup, and sticky toffee bread pudding.

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to prep for our big tour the next day.

Day 2:

We’re up early and grab a quick breakfast at the hotel, just the usual continental breakfast.

After breakfast, we’re off to find our tour bus! We scheduled a tour that took us to Giants Causeway and back, with many stops along the way. Most of which, were Game of Thrones related. They shot quite a bit of the show in Northern Ireland.

Our first stop of the day was Carrickfergus Castle (one of the few non Game of Thrones stops). It was just a quick stop, mostly just a restroom break. We didn’t actually get to go inside, just snapped a few pictures from the outside.

Our next stop was Carnlough, a Game of Thrones fan may recognize the steps here. This was another quick stop so folks could get their photo op and grab snacks from the convenience store across the street.

The third stop of the day took us to Cushendun Caves, another Game of Thrones themed stop. A few scenes were filmed here.

Next up was The Dark Hedges, a.k.a. the Kings Road in Game of Thrones. By the way, we are fans of the show, so we enjoyed all these stops. But even if you aren’t a fan, most were still very pretty areas!

Our next stop was actually our lunch stop. We ate at a place called Fullerton Arms. The driver took our orders earlier in the day and called it in so that we didn’t spend too long here. I enjoyed the Panko Breaded Chicken Goujons and Ali tried the Seafood Chowder. The door of the restaurant was actually made for Game of Thrones!

After lunch, the tour took us to The Old Bushmills Distillery. As two people who don’t really drink, we didn’t partake in the whiskey tasting. Instead we just hid from the rain on the bus and tried a few treats we had stashed in our backpacks.

Stop seven was the main reason we booked this tour: Giants Causeway! A beautiful & unique landscape of basalt columns. Definitely makes the list of most unique natural places we’ve visited.

As we started our journey home, we were able to catch a glance at Dunluce Castle, which was used as the Greyjoy castle in Game of Thrones.

After a much earned nap on the drive home, we grabbed some snacks from the super market & headed back to the hotel for the night.

Day 3:

It’s our last day in Belfast. But we still had plenty of time to sneak in some more sight seeing! First was a cab tour (Belfast Cab Tour) of the city. We got a history lesson as we drove through the different neighborhoods in the city.

After our tour, we decided to meander about town. We stopped at a few different cathedrals and enjoyed all the awesome graffiti around the city.

For lunch we took a little break from traditional Irish foods and tried some Lebanese food at a restaurant called Deerah.

After lunch, we said bye to Belfast and headed to the airport. Next stop: London
