British Isles 2022: Part 3: London, England

Day 1:

We managed smooth sailing all the way to London! It was fairly late in the day, so we just grabbed a few groceries at the local market and chilled at the hotel for the remainder of the night.

Day 2:

We started our day by heading straight to Borough Market! We wanted to be first in line to sample all the local market foods. Our samplings included: a chicken wrap, Scotch egg, donuts, sausage rolls and other pastries.

In a very unexpected turn of events, we ended up in London the same weekend as the queen’s funeral. The line for the viewing was crazy long, going all the way past borough market!!

Right next to Burrows Market was Southwalk Cathedral, so we checked it out real quick.

After stuffing our faces at the market, we slowly made our way to the British Museum, taking in the city as we walk.

After some meandering, we finally made it to the British Museum.

For our London stop, we were actually meeting up with some family for a few days of site seeing with them. So after the museum, we trekked back to the hotel meet up with them and chill the rest of the night.

Day 3:

We’re up bright and early to get to the Tower of London! We got there right as they opened & headed straight to the Crown Jewels. We managed to get there before the lines started to get long so we barely had to wait at all to get in. And after seeing the Crown Jewels, we explored the rest of the Tower exhibits.

After our morning at the Tower of London, we slowly walked through the city, making our way to the Waldorf Hotel for an afternoon tea! We all had a blast and everything was delicious.

Next up, we relaxed on a river cruise, taking all the major sites via boat.

The river tour also included tickets to the London Eye.

The rest of the night was just more city exploration and burgers for dinner. Then back to the hotel to unwind for the night.

Day 4:

Bright and early, we’re off to the Borough Market once again! There’s so much food to try, you could go there all week and still not try everything.

With VERY full stomaches, we made out was to the WB Studios/Harry Potter Tour. We spend 5 hours walking through, looking at all the sets, costumes, and props on display!

Afterwards, we grabbed a quick bite to eat and crashed at the hotel after our long day.

Day 5:

Slow morning as we pack and say farewell to our weekend travel companions.

We made a quick stop for some sticky toffee pudding before heading to the train station.

It just so happened to also be the same day as the Queen’s funeral, so everyone who was in town for that was also trying to leave town at the same time as us. The train stations were utter chaos, with delays and redirects and packed trains.

Eventually though, we make it out of London to our next stop: Cardiff!
