Yellowstone in 2 Days
In a previous post, I told of our Memorial Day weekend road trip adventure to Yellowstone. You can read more about that here: https://globetrekkinggeek.com/blog/seattle-to-yellowstone-road-trip
We didn't have long in Yellowstone. Two days to be exact. But, in those 2 days, we were able to fit in quite a bit. Here are the highlights!
Day 1
The first day in Yellowstone, we drove around the lower loop. We saw some Highlights included:
1. Old Faithful
This was our first stop within the park. We got there bright and early to chat with the rangers & get a good spot to watch the geyser. Its definitely not as big as one might think, but it is right on time, so its more of a guarantee that you will see it go off.
2. Old Faithful Inn
While we were waiting for Old Faithful to do its thing, we walked over to the Old Faithful Inn. It’s a beautiful old wooden inn. They do tours, but we didn't have time before the geyser.
3. Upper Geyser Basin
The area around Old Faithful Geyser is called the Upper Geyser Basin. You could easily spend a couple hours walking around this area. Tons of pools, springs, and geysers. All so beautiful. Wear some sunscreen though, there is no shade walking around there.
4. Grand Prismatic Spring
Just a short distance from the Upper Geyser Basin is the Grand Prismatic Spring, a giant, beautifully colored spring. We were only able to see it from ground level, but there is a trail that leads you to a birds eye view.
5. Yellowstone Lake
Next, we drove east past Yellowstone Lake. Got a few shots of the beautiful views.
6. Mud Volcano
Last stop of the day was the Mud Volcano. The smelliest place we visited that day, but I loved it because it reminded me of somewhere dinosaurs would live.
Day 2
1. Norris Geyser Basin
This place was pretty cool. Like walking around some planet in a sci-fi show. There is even one spot that you can set super close to a mini geyser.
2. Mammoth Hot Springs
Probably on of my favorite stops. All the pools and waterfalls were breathtaking.
3. Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
A change of pace from the usual springs and geysers. But still just as beautiful and breathtaking.
Bonus
The Wildlife! At random places throughout the park you will run into wildlife. Without even trying, we saw buffalo, elk, and even a few bears.
Yellowstone was great and the park is so huge you definitely need more than two days to see it all. We just saw the highlights, but it was well worth it. I'd love to go back some day and explore even more of the park.
