Top 10 Geekiest Places I've Been

Along with the normal tourist sights and museums, I love to go see super geeky things when I get the chance. Geeky themed museums, filming locations of my favorite movies, and everything in between.

Here's a list of the top 10 geekiest places I've been thus far in my adventures, in no particular order.

1. Hobbiton (Waikato, New Zealand)

By far one of my favorite geek-out adventures. I'm a really big Lord of the Rings fan, so I was in heaven. Everything was so beautiful to look at. And we got to have a pint at the Green Dragon Inn. The whole thing was fantastic! Its a long ride from Aukland, but its super worth it.

2. Ghibli Museum (Tokyo, Japan)

It may come as no surprise, I'm a fan of all things animation. Disney & Ghibli being high on that list. It was a real treat to get to go to the Ghibli Museum while we were in Tokyo. I only wish we were allowed to take pictures inside.

3. Ait Ben Haddou (Marrakech, Morocco)

Not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this village is also a popular filming location. Game of Thrones, the Mummy, and Gladiator are just a few movies that shot scenes there.

4. Madame Tussauds (London, England)

I know a lot of people just see this place as a tourist trap, but we had a great time there. Who doesn't want to take photos with all your favorite celebrities? I was actually blown away by how good the wax figures looked. And they had both a Star Wars & Marvel exhibit going while we were there, so it was a lot of fun. A great break from the normal art museums.

5. Museum of Pop Culture (Seattle, Washington)

I don't have to travel far for this museum. It’s one of my favorites here in Seattle. The MoPOP has props from all sorts of movies on display: fantasy, scifi, horror, etc. And they always have traveling exhibits coming through. Next week brings props from the Marvel universe, and I'm super excited to go check it out!

6. Trick Eye Museum (Seoul, South Korea)

This one is a lot of fun if you like posing for silly pictures. Or just like optical illusions. The whole point of the "museum" is to just take optical illusion pictures. Everything is interactive and its a ton of fun. A fun way to spend a few hours in Seoul.

7. Ta Prohm (Siem Reap, Cambodia)

Ta Prohm is also known as the Tomb Raider Temple. Why? Because they shot a few scenes for the first Tomb Raider movie there. Also, Siem Reap in general is cool. It brings out a lot of Indiana Jones, adventurer vibes.

8. Balto Statue in Central Park (New York, New York)

Ok, this may not be exciting to most people. But, I grew up watching the animated film Balto, and loved it. This statue was featured in the beginning and end of the movie, so it was fun to go out and search for it in Central Park.

9. Kualoa Ranch (Kaneohe, Hawaii)

Horseback riding in Hawaii is amazing. Its made only better by riding around a ranch that was the filming location of some great films & tv shows, such as Jurassic Park and Lost.

10. Spy Museum (Washington D.C.)

This museum was pretty neat. It featured both items from real life spies and some props from the James Bond movies. Plus, it had a lot of interactive displays so you can truly feel like a spy.
