Spain: Barcelona and Gaudi

A year or two ago, I flew to Europe for the first time in my life. During the trip, we went to Germany and Spain. One of my favorite stops was to Barcelona. And more specifically, seeing the beautiful Gaudi architecture there!

If you haven't heard of Antoni Gaudi, he was a Spanish architect (1852-1926). His buildings are unique and beautiful. I love his use of color, light, and organic shapes. He has quite a few buildings in Barcelona and we were able to check out three of them.

First stop was La Sagrada Familia, the most famous of Gaudi's work. The temple is actually still being built to this day. Gaudi began his work on it, but passed away before it was completed. During the Spanish Civil War, his workshop was destroyed, and, so artists have had to piece together scraps that were found in the rubble.

Slowly but surely, the temple is being completed. I hope to visit again someday to see it in all its glory! But even unfinished, it took my breath away. One of the most unique cathedrals I have ever been too.

Second stop was the Casa Batllo. Gaudi was hired to renovate this house in the early 1900's and created this beautiful, whimsical dwelling.

Last stop for us was the Park Guell. Park Guell is a huge park designed by Gaudi. Its full of gardens, buildings, and sculptures. Everywhere you look, there is something awesome to see.

Any of the Gaudi buildings are worth checking out! Like nothing you will have seen before and the pictures do not do it justice. My personal favorites were the Sagrada Familia and the Park Guell. I wish I could go back and see them again. I'm sure I could see things I missed the first time, so many beautiful details to look at.
